Akashi City and Vallejo Sister City Celebration. March 26, 2023

Writer: TokotokoTokotoko

On March 31st, 2019 (Sunday), when the news of the spread of the corona virus came out, we gave everyone tea and sweets at this first tea ceremony. It was the first time in 4 years, and I never thought it would happen at that time. It was patience. I feel like it's just a blink of an eye now. I think everyone did a great job. Life is back like before this year. Events have also started to take place. I no longer hear about a pandemic happening. We can't feel relieved yet, but we have no choice but to go from now on without stress.

This time we had a long holiday, and the spring sunshine was so bright, like animals waking up from hibernation. After the greetings from the chairman, Ms. P, the representative of this association, gave a speech and explained the tea ceremony. After showing a demonstration of the tea ceremony at the Misono Tana, everyone enjoyed tea and sweets for the first time in four years. The otemae(tea ceremony) of the day was performed by Ms. H. She had practiced a lot and was a great success on the day. She was very calm and beautiful. How do you like it?

This Vallejo city has a long history with Japan. Kaishu Katsu crossed the Pacific Ocean for the first time and arrived at San Francisco, where he repaired the crumbling Kanrin Maru.
