For those who lived through the Showa era, this tree truly evokes feelings of exoticism. It brings to mind the melody that everyone has hummed at least once and often heard on television. At the time, overseas travel was not yet common, and the image made me dream of faraway countries I had never been to. I had forgotten about it for a long time, but then I remembered it by chance. It was a mysterious tree standing in a private garden not far from Honolulu Airport on the island of Oahu in Hawaii, where I often visit. It is now open to the public, and is a very large and impressive tree. I hope you will go and see it at least once. Here is a part of it.
